Tips
Before you apply for the summer jobs program of One Summer Chicago, you need to know how to apply for a job properly. Here I’ll tell you some tips if it’s the first time you’ve applied to a job or if you have tried many times in the past but you didn’t have luck.
Use a professional-looking résumé and email address
The first step in your job process is to create a professional résumé and email address. Because your email is frequently the employer’s first introduction to you, you want to make a positive first impression.
You may get a free email account through a web-based email service like Gmail. If you prefer, you can create a more customized email if you purchase a domain name and set up your own email account.
Whether you use a third-party service like Gmail or your own server, once you’ve created your email account, remember to check it regularly. Respond to potential employers as soon as possible.
Make sure you’re dressed appropriately for the interview.
Clothes reveal a lot about the sort of employee you are, and first impressions last. If you’re not sure what to wear, it’s a good idea to ask. It’s always safe to wear something more formal though.
If you are hired, make sure you have all of the relevant paperwork.
When applying for jobs, you may be required to show papers such as your birth certificate and Social Security card / ITIN number.
