Get a glimpse into the life of a high school girl who seeks the perfect balance between her life and helping her family.
PBS’ POV has announced the release of Fruits of Labor, a documentary on the life of Ashley Solis. Ashley is a high school senior who must balance academics and supporting her family as a second-generation Mexican American. The documentary is directed by Emily Cohen Ibaez.
The hard life in the strawberry fields
The hardship of agricultural labor in the strawberry fields, located in a California working-class community, stands in sharp contrast to the beauty of nature and her spiritual ancestral background.

Following the World Premiere at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival, director Emily Cohen Ibáez recounts Ashley’s existence in modern America, guided by the spirit world through her trials and tribulations.
Fruits of Labor debuts today on the PBS platform and will be available for free. If you’re interested in the documentary, you can view it by clicking here.
