Freeland hits theaters September 17, on-demand October 19

In Freeland – Kate McLean and Mario Furloni’s directorial debut – Krisha Fairchild plays an old-school pot grower who is overwhelmed as the cannabis market is legalized.
After making its world premiere at the 2020 SXSW Film Festival, Dark Star Pictures brings this festival smash hit to North America in theaters and on-demand.
Freeland, written and directed by Mario Furloni and Kate McLean as their feature debut, stars Fairchild as Devi, who has been cultivating famous marijuana strains on the isolated homestead she created herself for decades. However, after cannabis is legalized, she finds herself battling for her life. Fairchild delivers a superb performance as a black-market farmer fighting to keep her farm.
The film is filled with great performances, including a heartbreaking role by John Craven as an old sweetheart from Devi’s communal days, as well as Frank Mosley and Lily Gladstone as drifting harvest workers.
Directors Mario Furloni and Kate McLean infuse this emotional drama with a profound and compassionate authenticity shot on off-the-grid marijuana farms during the actual harvest.
Freeland is coming to select theaters on September 17. The film will be accessible on-demand worldwide on October 19, 2021.
