City hosting community cannabis meeting at Malcolm X College

The Chicago mayor’s office says that it will host a community meeting on Thursday, December 5 at 6 PM at Malcolm X College “to ensure legalized cannabis is implemented in a safe, fair, and equitable manner for all communities.”

The information session is meant to provide community members with opportunities to submit questions, provide feedback, and learn more about the upcoming legalization of recreational cannabis in Chicago. The city hosted a cannabis zoning meeting in Uptown in October.

“These meetings build on continued engagement the City has undertaken to ensure community perspectives are considered as new cannabis regulations are developed,” the city says.

Recreational marijuana sales go into effect in Illinois on January 1, 2020. Illinois will become the second state in the Midwest to legalize the drug, and Chicago is expected to be a benefactor in terms of revenue.

Not far from the Land of Lincoln, legalized marijuana sales began in the state of Michigan yesterday. Over $200,000 worth of sales were registered on the first day, according to the Detroit Free Press.
