Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, Granville Red Line station closures delayed one week

The planned weekend closures of three North Side Red Line stations has been delayed a week. The closures were planned to begin on January 10.

The weekend-long closures will affect Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, and Granville Red Line CTA stations. They will begin on Friday, January 17 at 10 PM and last through Monday, January 19 at 4 AM. During the hours of construction, trains will run on the Purple Line tracks between Berwyn and Loyola.

“We expect this will last at least six consecutive weekends. During station closures, the CTA will operate a bus shuttle on Broadway making regular stops at Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, and Granville,” Alderman Harry Osterman’s office says.

As we reported in December:

This work will involve the installation of an underground duct bank below the tracks. This will include excavation, vibratory-driven sheet metal installation, and the use of cranes and trucks to lift and haul equipment, materials, and excavation waste. This work will take place around the clock, beginning Friday and concluding at 4 AM on Monday. There will be noise and vibrations associated with the work.
